Chris Dore Director

I support numerous countries around the world, developing their emissions inventories, providing training and capacity building

Chris Dore, Director

Chris has been working in the air quality and climate change fields for over 20 years, with expertise in atmospheric and environmental physics and chemistry.  He is a member of the Air Quality Expert Group for the UK Government, is a qualified UNFCCC reviewer and lead reviewer of air quality inventories and adjustments.

As the Chair of the UN/ECE’s Taskforce on Emission inventories and Projections, Chris is responsible for steering the development of emission inventory methodologies and overseeing the maintenance of the EMEP/EEA Emissions Inventory Guidebook – the central reference manual for air quality emissions inventories. He has also authored technical guidance under the CLRTAP for the review of emission inventories and the emissions adjustments process.

Chris has provided support to numerous countries around the world, developing their emissions inventories, providing training and capacity building, and participating in bilateral reviews. Countries include the following: Cyprus, Ireland, Iceland, France, Italy, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Slovakia, Malta, Albania, Macedonia, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, China, India, Indonesia, Barbados, Jamaica, St Vincent/Grenadines.

In the UK, Chris has been involved in reviewing the local authority air quality action planning process, assessing how well the UK emission inventory compares with other European national inventories and compiling emission estimates as part of the UK emissions inventory programme. On secondment to the Air Quality Science and Evidence team in Defra for a year, he provided policy support on issues associated with compliance with the EU Directives, and in particular on issues associated with transport and agriculture.

Prior to founding Aether, Chris was the Programme Director of the UK emissions inventory, leading a team of some 20 staff, with overall responsibility for the UK’s air quality and climate change emission inventories. In addition, he had line management responsibilities for approximately 80 staff. For his PhD he undertook the measurement of CO2 emissions/uptake from different vegetation types.

Away from work Chris enjoys sport, and in particular softball and running. He also tries to make time for painting, unicycling and playing the drums.
