Christofer Ahlgren, Consultant

Christofer is a consultant specialising in local emission inventories and emission forecasting. He has worked with various local authorities in the UK and abroad to support their actions related to sustainability. His work includes developing Sustainable Energy Action Plans under the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy, as well as estimating regional emission projections.

In 2016, he had a leading role in the development of the Oxford Sustainability Index, comparing and ranking the sustainability of British local authorities according to a range of sustainability indicators. Since then, Christofer has continued to lead the expansion of this index to further incorporate municipalities in Sweden and Finland.

Christofer develops data visualisation solutions for private as well as public organisations, with previous work including the development of online data viewers representing trends in greenhouse gas emissions, such as for South Africa. More locally, Christofer is a member of the Oxford University Sustainability Guild, and assists Oxford University colleges develop their sustainability strategies.

Through projects with institutions such as the UK Department of Business Energy and Industrial Strategy and the Scottish Government, Christofer has core experience undertaking literature reviews and assessments related to co-benefits of climate change mitigation and adaptation. This research included quantitative and qualitative elements, assessing economic and social impacts of climate actions. Furthermore, Christofer works with the evaluation of transport policies on a local as well as international scale through his work evaluating policies and measures for local authorities and EU Member States. Christofer further brings valuable skills from work in several European countries, working in English, Swedish, Spanish and French.

Christofer received an MSc in Nature, Society and Environmental Policy at University of Oxford, and has previous environmental research experience on the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants and international greenhouse gas inventories. Prior to joining Aether, Christofer worked with the Corporate Environmental Management System ISO14001 in Sweden, and performed ad-hoc environmental research for the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group, a global network of megacities taking action to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.

Outside work, Christofer enjoys learning new languages and has a passion for sailing, hiking and second-hand bookshops.
