Laurence Opie, Consultant

Laurence is currently gaining experience across a wide range of climate change and air pollution topic areas. Past and current projects include:

  • the compilation of emission inventories for the UK’s Overseas Territories and Crown Dependencies as part of the NAEI programme;
  • the development of Measuring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) systems for greenhouse gases and air pollution at a national scale;
  • supporting the development of Industrial Emissions reporting for the E-PRTR and Industrial Emissions Directive with the European Environment Agency; and
  • air quality assessments for property developers as part of the planning application process.

Laurence received a BSc in Environmental Science from the University of Birmingham and has previous experience at a world-leading research institute through an internship at the Birmingham Institute of Forest Research.  This involved preparing the infrastructure and collecting baseline data for the start of the Free Air CO2 Enrichment (FACE) experiment investigating the effects of elevated CO2 levels on temperate forest.

Outside of work, Laurence enjoys travelling, playing squash and likes to play the drums without much success.
