Aether worked with Engain to produce Barbados’ Second National Communications Report to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. Aether’s primary role was the compilation of the greenhouse gas inventory, with the associated objective of formulating a national data collection, reporting and analysis framework.
This was Barbados’ second greenhouse gas inventory. The first inventory was produced for the First National Communication in 2001. Data collection was therefore not a routine annual task and obtaining input data was difficult in some cases.
Aether attended meetings with data providers and delivered in-country training as part of the process. This enabled one to one contact to be made with data providers, so that information could be collated for some sectors, for compilation of the inventory. Where no data was available, information was obtained from United Nations statistics and surrogate datasets.
A 2010 greenhouse gas emissions inventory was developed for Barbados. This showed that the energy sector (including transport) was responsible for approximately 75% of GHG emissions in 2010. The successful completion of this work has led to further work in the country and region.
