Aether provided voluntary support

26 April 2013

Aether spent the day at the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxford Wildlife Trust nature reserve at Sutton Courtenay doing conservation work. The Trust relies on volunteers to help maintain the nature reserve, so once we had split into two groups, we got stuck in to our allotted tasks for the day.

One group practised their willow weaving skills, and made a long tall "wishing tunnel" of arched willow. This should start sprouting across the next few weeks and grow across the Summer.

The other group cleared a large wooded area of stinging nettles, built a perimeter fence from branches, and added dead and rotting tree trunks. The area is designed to be a good habitat for insects and smaller creatures, so that children can find them during "bug hunts".

All agreed that it’s good to support these local initiatives, and a fun way of spending a day out with colleagues.
