Evidence reviews for the wider implications of climate change mitigation

29 July 2016

The Scottish Government has commissioned Aether, in collaboration with Aether Associates and Dr Keith Baker, to carry out evidence reviews of the co-benefits and adverse side effects of climate change mitigation in the transport and built environment sectors.  The studies will provide a comprehensive overview and synthesis of existing and planned research. A detailed understanding of the co-benefits and possible adverse side effects of mitigation is important to policy makers for exploiting synergies and minimising conflicts between policy goals.  The outcomes will help inform RPP3, the Scottish Government’s third Report on Policies and Proposals. This report will set out specific measures to meet Scotland's statutory targets to reduce greenhouse gases, as required by the Climate Change (Scotland) Act 2009. A gap analysis and recommendations for future research will also be provided.  The final report will be completed in 2016.
