Improving Air Quality after Brexit - Report Launch, 12 December 2017

04 December 2017

Air quality is an important and high-profile issue and has been described by Defra as “the largest environmental risk to public health in the UK”. However, it has yet to receive any real attention in the ongoing debate on the type of Brexit the UK wants and can achieve, and even less on what happens afterwards.

In common with most environmental protection legislation in the UK, much of the UK’s air pollution law and policy derives from EU Directives although there is also an aging suite of domestic regulation as well as international treaty obligations. The  Environmental Industries Commission (EIC) and Aether have teamed up to analyse the current picture, what Brexit might mean for this and what opportunities there are to make improvements to the way we address this major environmental challenge.

The resulting report, to be launched at a meeting of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Air Pollution in the Houses of Parliament on 12 December, proposes six measures which need to be put in place if we are to seize this opportunity and ensure that we are in a position to protect the health of the UK population from poor air quality.

The event will be free to attend.
