National governments

Aether supports governments in compiling and enhancing their emissions inventories and in related policy development

Governments are required to fulfil a wide range of reporting requirements to international Conventions and Protocols covering climate change and air pollution emissions.  We can provide detailed advice to support these requirements including new requirements anticipated under the Paris Agreement.  Aether has provided consultancy services to many national governments in Europe and beyond including the UK, Ireland, Germany, Spain, Turkey, Barbados, Iceland, Colombia, Grenada and Chile.

Cities & local authorities

Aether works for cities and other local authorities both in the UK and overseas to monitor and improve environmental performance

In the fight against climate change we are now entering the era of the city.  Aether offers a wealth of experience working with cities and regions to combat climate change and improve air quality. We work at the sub-national level to assist municipalities, local authorities and other organisations to collect, measure and analyse evidence of emissions and the potential impact of local action on emission reduction.  We offer our services in English, Spanish and French and work with associates internationally to ensure our expertise can be applied universally.

International organisations

Aether brings together multi-disciplinary teams to provide expert capacity building services and key skills in data analysis and inventory review

Aether leads teams to provide organisations with transparent solutions for efficient measurement, reporting and verification (MRV).  Aether supports a range of international organisations such as the European Environment Agency, UNFCCC, IPCC, UNDP and the European Commission with guidance development, data gathering, analysis, quality assurance and reporting.

Construction and property developers

Aether has many years of experience in undertaking air quality assessments for domestic, commercial and industrial developments.

Air quality assessments are often required by Local Authorities as part of the planning process for developments.  They aim to ensure that local residents are not exposed to poor air quality and that the development will not significantly worsen air quality in the vicinity. The assessments can be standalone reports or form part of an Environmental Impact Assessment.

Case studies

Climate Adaptation Plans Review for Scottish Public Bodies

Aether have provided an overview of the state of play of climate adaptation planning for Scottish Public Bodies. The study, commissioned by ClimateXChange (CXC) on behalf of the Scottish Government, aimed to facilitate understanding and learnings on gaps in public body reporting on adaptation, including gaps in information on costs and benefits.

Risk Assessment and Climate Action Planning with Staffordshire County Council

Aether supported Staffordshire County Council to develop a climate change risk assessment and climate adaptation and mitigation action plans. The aim of the project was to provide a rapid, independent review of the council's work and to provide recommendations to strengthen the actions that the council would ultimately commit to.

Adaptation and Mitigation Planning for Tamworth Borough Council

Aether, in partnership with SE2 and Mesh, delivered a package of work to support Tamworth Borough Council to develop an evidence-based climate change adaptation strategy and mitigation action plan.

LULUCF GHG Inventory Support for Romania

Aether is supporting the Romanian National Research and Development Institute for Cryogenic and Isotopic Technologies (ICSI) in the compilation of its national greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventory for non-forest land areas. We are helping to ensure that Romania’s land use, land use change and forestry (LULUCF) inventory is robust and of high quality.

Driving emission reductions through the public sector supply chain: Scope 3 emissions

Aether contributed to the analysis of procurement (Scope 3) emissions reporting in the Scottish public sector. The research aimed to demonstrate approaches and tools available to Scottish public bodies. The aim was to understand and report their supply chain emissions, providing options for action to improve supply chain reporting across the public sector.
