Pietro has worked for many years in Italy and Germany as an academic researcher in remote sensing of atmospheric composition monitoring. Since moving to the UK, he gained experience in air quality and dust assessment for EIA and planning applications at all levels, from residential developments in London to highways, railways, and airports both national and international.

He has experience in dispersion modelling with ADMS-Roads, ADMS 6, and AERMOD, planning and implementing ambient air quality monitoring, qualitative risk assessments for dust and odour. He also has experience in automation and scripting in Python and R, as well as mapping in QGIS and ArcGIS.

In his role, he acts as a project manager, technical QA/QC reviewer, and coach, and contributes to business development. He has also led digital improvement initiatives and product development across multiple technical disciplines.

Projects include:

• Designing the quality control framework for Python and R scripts to translate the UK National Atmospheric Emissions Inventory (NAEI) from spreadsheets to coded models
• Identifying sources of air pollution in Kuwait through modelling and satellite observations covering the whole country
• Supporting Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, in establishing its first air quality monitoring study, which led to a city-wide construction dust monitoring network
• Managing delivery of Heathrow Airport’s greenhouse gas emission inventory and forecasts for its planned expansion

Outside of work, Pietro can be found spending time in nature, walking, camping, and practising yoga.
