Annual meeting of the Task Force on Emissions Inventories and Projections (TFEIP)

4 May 2025

In May, several members of the Aether team attended the annual meeting of the Task Force on Emissions Inventories and Projections (TFEIP) which was hosted in Warsaw by the Polish Institute of Environmental Protection.

The TFEIP was established under the UNECE Convention on Long-range Transboundary Air Pollution and the Task Force’s role is to support Parties in the reporting of air pollutant emissions and projections data to the Convention. It provides a technical forum and expert network to harmonise emission factors, establish methodologies for the evaluation of emission data and projections and identify problems related to emissions reporting. This includes having responsibility for the development and technical content of the EMEP/EEA Emission Inventory Guidebook used for the estimation and reporting of national emissions.

Sessions across the three days included an uncertainty workshop, international news and sector specific sessions for each of the TFEIP’s six expert panels (Combustion & Industry, Transport, Agriculture, Waste, Projections and User Engagement). A key topic of discussion at this year’s meeting was priority improvements for the next update of the EMEP/EEA Guidebook which is planned for 2027. Prioritised improvement lists for each sector were reviewed and approved at the meeting and will now be used as the basis for the upcoming Guidebook improvement work which Aether staff will be responsible for overseeing.

Members of the Aether team are responsible for the strategic direction and day to day running of the Task Force through the positions of Task Force Co-Chair, Projections Expert Panel Co-Chair and Secretariat, for which we’re proud to be supported by UK Government.
