Assessment of the UK’s National Inventory Report

30 October 2014

The UK’s greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory consists of the national GHG emissions presented in the UNFCCC’s Common Reporting Format (CRF), and the National Inventory Report (NIR). The NIR follows a UNFCCC-required structure and details the methods used to calculate the UK’s GHG emissions. This work, commissioned by DECC, will develop a systematic drafting process by which individual chapters of the NIR can be reviewed and re-written identifying areas that contain more detail or less transparency than needed. We will be using this drafting process to review and update the Energy Chapter; one of the longest NIR Chapters covering the largest emitting sector.
