Chris Dore leads chapter on emissions for RoTAP publication

28 June 2012

A Review of Transboundary Air Pollution (RoTAP) has been published by the Centre for Ecology & Hydrology on behalf of Defra and the Devolved Administrations, with Chris Dore of Aether contributing as a lead author.

The report assesses the current state of rural air pollution issues in the UK, evaluates the extensive measurements of atmospheric pollutants and their effects, and provides a synthesis of current understanding which will be used to determine air quality policies. The pollutants covered are important drivers of major current issues including acid deposition, eutrophication, ground level ozone and heavy metal pollution in the UK.

Chris Dore of Aether was tasked with leading on Chapter 2 – Emissions, detailing the current knowledge base for four of the most damaging pollutants: sulphur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen oxides (NOx), ammonia (NH3) and non-methane volatile organic compounds (NMVOCs). Within this, discussions and comments focus on historic trends & projections, maps & spatial distributions, and international targets & legislation. Consideration is given regarding potential links to, and dependencies on climate change.

The full report, along with a summary document is available from the RoTAP website.
