Madrid office launched

Aether, the air emissions specialist consultancy, has opened a new office in Madrid. This represents Aether’s first permanent base outside the UK, supporting their growing international business.
Justin Goodwin, Director of Business Strategy, explained the development:
“We are excited to welcome three leading Spanish emissions experts and a high profile Technical Director to lead the business in Spain. Our UK portfolio is core to our business, but we have always had a strong international profile. Over the last few years we have seen substantial growth in the international sector including work for the Irish and now the Spanish Government, as well as the European Commission and the European Environment Agency.”
Pepa Lopez joins us from sustainable development consultancy ICEDD in Belgium, and brings 20 years’ experience in consultancy for local, regional and national governments, the European Commission, the European Parliament, the Committee of the Regions, the OECD and the EEA. She has participated in UNFCCC expert reviews for more than 10 years. Pepa is also the author of publications on the implementation of IPCC Guidelines, climate change policies, low carbon economy, sustainable development and environmental statistics and accounts.
Juan José Rincón Cristóbal, Juan Luis Martín Ortega and Beatriz Sánchez Jiménez join us from the Spanish National Emissions Inventory Team in Madrid. They bring expertise in the estimation of Industrial Combustion and Processes, Solvents and Other Product Use, Agriculture and LULUCF emissions and removals. In addition, they are experts in databases, GIS, economics and data analysis, as well as having a large experience of EU/UNFCCC environmental data reporting and review.
Aether has seen a significant increase in demand for its environmental data and policy expertise from international customers as countries get to grips with using environmental data to inform long term policy and business decisions – particularly on climate change and air pollution issues.

“Many countries and international organisations are now realising that an ability to quantify and communicate information on environmental impacts (such as greenhouse gas and air pollutant emissions, waste and water resources) strengthens their low carbon, clean air and resource efficient economies.
Our new multilingual team of internationally recognised experts gives us added flexibility. We are increasingly getting involved in larger and more globally collaborative capacity building and support opportunities.”
