Project win: LAEI update

23 May 2014

Aether has been commissioned to review the Non-Road Mobile Machinery (NRMM) element of the London Atmospheric Emissions Inventory, in partnership with Bureau Veritas. NRMM comprise machinery associated with construction and demolition, as well as diesel generators and other machinery used in industry for short or long periods. The temporal nature of NRMM makes it challenging to accurately model emissions arising from their use. The project will assess the validity of previous emission estimates, with the aim of estimating the size of the contribution from NRMM to breaches of EU air pollution limit values. The underlying activity data will be re-visited to determine where improvements can be made both to the estimates of the total emissions within the LAEI area, and their geographical distribution. Once the significance of the NRMM as a source of air pollution is better understood, GLA will consider if measures to control emission sources are necessary.
