Capacity Sharing in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines

30 April 2026

Annie Parker and Kirsten May from Aether had the pleasure of delivering a three-day GHG inventory capacity sharing workshop in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

As an important milestone on the journey towards development of the first Biennial Transparency Report (BTR1), the workshop was focused on the updated national GHG inventory. The workshop took participants through the full inventory cycle; from planning and data collection, to emission compilation and, finally, reporting and improvement planning.

đź’¬ From the outset, participants shared their personal objectives for the workshop, setting the tone for a genuinely open and collaborative few days. This carried through into animated discussions on data flows, institutional coordination, and the practical realities of compiling a national inventory.

🔍 A lot of time was spent digging into challenges, identifying data gaps, questioning approaches, and exploring how improvements can be implemented, however it was also important to step back and recognise the milestone this work represents. This inventory, being developed for BTR1, reflects a step change in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines’ understanding of its greenhouse gas emissions. While emissions may be small in global terms, the commitment to transparency is anything but.

🌍Transparency under the Paris Agreement’s Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF) is not just about reporting. It is about building the systems and confidence needed to track progress, inform policy, and ultimately drive climate action. That message really resonated across the workshop.

🧩A particular highlight in SVG was the final day, where participants presented sectoral improvement plans, thoughtful, practical, and grounded in real institutional contexts. These will be vital inputs into the BTR1 and the continued strengthening of the national system for the GHGI.

A huge thank you to the Sustainable Development Unit in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines for their leadership, coordination, and collaborative approach throughout.
