Kalmar becomes a Pilot City for the Mayors’ Sustainable Development Indicators

28 September 2017

Together with our collaborator Benviroc, Aether is developing the Mayors’ Sustainable Development Indicators (MSDI).

The MSDI is a Sustainability Index for municipalities in Sweden, Finland and the UK. The index, that will be launched in 2018, aims to compare municipalities’ environmental, economic and social sustainability according to a range of indicators.

The service is currently developed in collaboration with a group of Pilot Cities, and today we are happy to announce that Kalmar joined the MSDI. We will work together with the Pilot Cities to select the most relevant indicators, and ensure that the service helps improve their work on the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Located by the Baltic Sea on the Swedish east coast, Kalmar has a population of 67,213 inhabitants in the wider municipality. As the regional capital of the wider Kalmar County, Kalmar is the home to one of the Linnaeus University campuses. In recent years, Kalmar city has taken action to reduce its use of fossil fuels, and improve water quality in the Baltic Sea.
