Lewisham Council Climate Emergency declaration support

20 August 2019

Aether has recently started work on a project in collaboration with CAG Consultants supporting Lewisham Council to shape and respond to its climate emergency declaration.

Lewisham became the second London borough to declare a climate emergency back in February 2019. The declaration saw the council “pledge to do everything within their power to make Lewisham carbon neutral by 2030”.

The project will aim to underpin the response to the declaration and help Lewisham to deliver carbon neutral. It will also form the evidence base for the new Lewisham Action Plan on Climate Change to be published before the end of the municipal year.

Lewisham’s Climate Emergency declaration is just part of the emerging national movement to increase the pace and scale of action on climate change. At the time of writing over 317 declarations have been made across the UK. Aether is excited to work on this research project to establish an approach to climate emergency declarations and to apply bespoke modelling solutions to map the route to carbon neutral.
