University of Edinburgh Carbon Modelling and Scenarios Tool

12 August 2015

Aether have been appointed by the University of Edinburgh (UoE) to develop a new tool to manage, report and forecast carbon emissions for the university’s estate and operations. This tool will assist UoE in better understanding the drivers of carbon emissions from its operations and help inform the review of the current Climate Action Plan and development of a new university-wide Climate Change Strategy, as well as strategic decisions regarding the future of the UoE estate, the impacts of potential projects and/or policies as well as providing a framework for the University’s various reporting requirements.

This new tool will be the central hub for collecting activity data related to energy use in buildings, from transport (fleet and business travel), water consumption and waste generation and will compile and calculate resulting carbon emissions. The tool will act as the repository for the historical time series (dating back to the University’s baseline year 2007/08) and provide insight into potential future emissions based on the trends in historical consumption, on carbon saving projects and potential changes to the university’s operations (for example turnover, student population etc.).
