Växjö becomes a Pilot City for the Mayors’ Sustainable Development Indicators

27 September 2017

Together with our collaborator Benviroc, Aether is developing the Mayors’ Sustainable Development Indicators (MSDI).

The MSDI is a Sustainability Index for municipalities in Sweden, Finland and the UK. The index, that will be launched in 2018, aims to compare municipalities’ environmental, economic and social sustainability according to a range of indicators.

The service is currently developed in collaboration with a group of Pilot Cities, and today we are happy to announce that Växjö joined the MSDI. We will work together with the Pilot Cities to select the most relevant indicators, and ensure that the service helps improve their work on the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Located in southern Sweden, Växjö has a population of 90,183 inhabitants. As the regional capital of the wider Kronoberg County, Växjö is the home to one of the Linnaeus University campuses. Växjö has long been known for its pioneering role in sustainability, and since 2007 promoted itself as ‘The Greenest City in Europe’. In 2017, Växjö was awarded the European Green Leaf Award by the European Commission.
