Karlstad becomes a Pilot City for the Mayors’ Sustainable Development Indicators

Together with our collaborator Benviroc, Aether is developing the Mayors’ Sustainable Development Indicators (MSDI).

The MSDI is a Sustainability Index for municipalities in Sweden, Finland and the UK. The index, that will be launched in 2018, aims to compare municipalities’ environmental, economic and social sustainability according to a range of indicators.

The service is currently developed in collaboration with a group of Pilot Cities, and today we are happy to announce that Karlstad joined the MSDI. We will work together with the Pilot Cities to select the most relevant indicators, and ensure that the service helps improve their work on the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Located in west central Sweden, Karlstad has a population of 90,464 inhabitants in the wider municipality. Karlstad is the regional capital of the Vämland County, and characterised by its proximity to lake Vänern, the largest lake in the EU. Karlstad municipality annually designates a climate award to a local stakeholder to promote innovative companies, people and organisations working with climate mitigation and adaptation.
